Neersville Fire Station and Meeting Hall Under Threat
Residents Concerned over losing Community Facilities
The future of the Neersville Voluntary Fire Station has been in question after local residents are concerned about the future of the attached meeting hall and kitchen facilities which have been utilised by local community members and groups for years as the county is set to take over the building.
The management of the station is currently in a state of limbo as the cost of running the voluntary station which has community resources is strained. Residents do not want to lose their facilities and they are looking for officials to state that if and when the takeover occurs there will not be a loss of services.
The decision to turn the station over to the county was largely driven by the decision to purchase a new ambulance and take on appropriate staff. Officials state that when the transfer takes place in around February the move will be seamless, especially as financing has already been agreed.
There are also plans being discussed to build a new more modern station on Route 9 slightly further east. Most residents and community leaders are in favor of any plans that help maintain public services to the area.
